HANNAH FLEMINGTON

PERSONAL STATEMENT

  • For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by environmental processes.

I consider myself fortunate to have spent every summer outside. I spent each July in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, where the craving to understand my natural surroundings was fostered. I spent each August in Joggins, Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy. I passed the days on the mud flats, admiring the three hundred million-year-old fossil cliffs that populate the terrain. I was fascinated by the life that could be found in the tidal pools.

The summer I turned seven, my beach was deemed an UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing the topography’s geological significance. This recognition was groundbreaking for the community and personally emphasized the overwhelming sense of pride I felt to be connected to Joggins.

These experiences, coupled with my personal passion, have led me to pursue a career in understanding environmental systems and how they can be managed.
